PROVERB PRACTICALS

Proverbs 2:12-15,  To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

This son is to walk in the God preserved paths of judgment.

He is to find it pleasant, not grievous, to walk in those paths.

His father has brought him to the love of the truth, which has given him discernment to know the evil man from the good man.

Will he find the evil man on those paths?

Will he find the man that speaks froward things?

In this world that man will be found tempting the man who walks in the paths of judgment, for that man has left the paths of uprightness.

The evil man's ways are crooked because he has left the straight path of uprightness, the path of judgment.

He has left the path of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness because evil doers love darkness.

That man is apostate and desires that others be apostate.

He gains no conviction from the straight walk of the upright but desires to corrupt the upright so that he has partners to walk with him in the paths of darkness.

The apostate man is hopeless from redemption for he is proud and the proud continue to be proud even in the face of imminent destruction.

For God has so ordained pride to be self destructive!

He not only is proud but he rejoices to do evil, and delights in the frowardness of the wicked.

Froward means turned or looking from.

Think of to and fro. Looking to and looking from. Froward

It indicates looking from a position of right to a position of wrong.

It means not willing to yield or to comply with what is required.

That means that a choice is made in favor of rebellion over obedience.

In other words frowardness is a turning from right to wrong with full knowledge.

Frowardness does not come from ignorance but on the contrary it comes from knowledge.

In Luke 9:62 Jesus describes the froward man who:

having put his hand to the plow, looks back and by looking back reveals himself as unfit for the kingdom of God, for the kingdom of God requires plowing under the yoke of Christ.

He knew that plowing required looking forward but he willingly, with full knowledge, turned from the right way to look the wrong way and thereby corrupted his plowing.

Why? What caused him to look the wrong way?

He did not look the wrong way to become froward.

He looked the wrong way because he was froward.

The froward in you will always be revealed.

It cannot be concealed. It will come out!

Do not be afraid of bringing out the frowardness of your children.

Frowardness begins in childhood.

But bring it to a head when it shows itself.

Do not cover it up and pretend it is not there.

Like a blemish on your face it needs to be popped!

This father has taught his son the principle of Hebrews 4:13,  Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

That is the way we are to be as parents.

All that our children do is to be naked and opened unto our eyes because God has given us to be the ones with whom they have to do.

You are to deal with the monster of frowardness or you will sacrifice your child to the monster and once lost to frowardness there is no hope.

So the vision of this teaching father of the Proverbs is that his son will be equipped to know what is forward and what is froward.

He will know that frowardness is abomination to the one in whom he fears, both his father and his father's heavenly father.

This son is equipped with wisdom that has entered his heart.

He finds the knowledge of God pleasant to his soul and has that within his heart which delivers him from the way of the evil man.

Proverbs 2:12-15,  Continuing, To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

Discretion gives him the ability to know that things spoken by the evil man are froward things, things that tend to take one away from God.

And what gives him that ability?

What has the father done for his son in order for him to know the forward from the froward.

He is led him to the one who has equipped him with the whole amour of God.

He has led him to Jesus Christ, Wisdom personified!

He has his loins girt about with truth, his breast covered with the breastplate of righteousness.

His feet are shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.

He carries the shield of faith, knowing full well that the fiery darts of the wicked are headed his way.

He is not naive to the wiles of the evil one

His head is enclosed with the helmet of salvation and in his hand he carries the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

And he adds to that amour all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.

This is the defense that the word of God provides.

How careless and how self confident we are when we think that we need not its amour.

Amour is to be put on daily, for the battle is daily.

As fathers and mothers we are to love our children.

What greater way can that love be expressed than equipping our children with a biblical defense against the wiles of the devil and his evil men?

God expects it of us and he provides for us to do it!

This proverbs father continues to glorify the virtues of wisdom to his son as he warns him of the weakness of his flesh.

Son, Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: from the evil men and they will also: Go to Proverbs 2:16,19
