Proverbs 4:2, For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. The father that expresses this is a Biblical father. The authority that expresses this is operating on Biblical principles. This is the standard of scripture and this is the premise. This father or this authority gives good doctrine because his doctrine is based upon God’s word. No boasting here if doctrine is built upon the word of God. If your instruction is built upon the principles of the word of God you can say with all confidence the your doctrine is good. So good doctrine, doctrine based upon the word of God is to be heeded, it is to be attended. This is what the son is to be drawn to, good doctrine, never bad doctrine and the father intends to equip his son to know what is good doctrine by himself instructing or teaching good doctrine. This is the responsibility of authority. Good doctrine is to be the pattern. Good doctrine is to be the daily diet. How do you learn to eat good food? By eating good food when you are young. By being taught to eat good food in the home. A good mother instructs her children with good dietary doctrine by serving good food. By doing this she places in the child the love of good healthy food and the child will not forsake her law. His or her appetite will be for good food. How do you avail yourself of good doctrine? By feeding on good doctrine and knowing what makes up good doctrine. The Bible says to test every spirit. How does a man test every spirit? By knowing good doctrine. The expert knows what is true and tests all against what is true. He does not know every false doctrine, but concentrates on good doctrine and thereby can discern every false doctrine. There is no way to be sure unless your doctrine built upon the word of God. If your instruction is built upon the principles of the word of God you can say with all confidence that your doctrine is good. You can rest at night because your doctrine is good. So good doctrine, doctrine based upon the word of God is to be heeded, it is to be attended. Good doctrine is to be the daily diet so that good doctrine as good food is loved and sought. A good mother insists her children eat good food even if they do not like certain foods. Why? for the greater good of the child than immediate taste pleasures. She does not sacrifice the permanent on the altar of the immediate She teaches them good dietary doctrine by serving good healthy food. By doing this she places in the child the love of good healthy food and the child will not forsake her law. And likewise this father intends for his son to feed on good doctrine and to know what makes up good doctrine. The Bible says to test every spirit. How does a man test every spirit? By knowing good doctrine. The expert knows what is true and tests all against what is true. He does not know every false doctrine, but concentrates on good doctrine and thereby can discern every false doctrine. One would have to be given many lifetimes to know every false doctrine but God gives one lifetime of know good doctrine and he expects those in authority to instruct it. Now doctrine in a general sense is anything that is taught. It could be a position or principle of science. The doctrines of the Gospel are the principles or truths taught by Christ and his Apostles. A doctrine may be true or false, it may be a mere tenet or opinion. But this Biblical father, this authority operating on Biblical principles has true doctrine, has good doctrine. God holds those in authority, whether they be believers or not, responsible and accountable to give good doctrine to those under authority. Those in authority are answerable to God for that which they instruct. It is to be good doctrine. And in giving out good doctrine the admonition to not forsake my law can then be safely obeyed. When this kind of authority speaks, comfort is found in obedience for this obedience is based upon good doctrine. This is how those in authority earn the respect of those under authority by always instructing good doctrine. It is soon found out that obedience is the best policy for it yields peaceable fruit in this life and life eternal with Christ. |
