PROVERB PRACTICALS
|
Proverbs 14:34, Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. Righteousness is conformity of the heart (belief) and life (practice) to divine law. It is doing right and the only way to know what is right and to practice doing right is to know and to apply the Word of God. Exalteth means to elevate in power, wealth, rank or dignity. Reproach means shame, infamy, disgrace, object of contempt, scorn or derision In other words this verse means that a nation of people that practices righteousness will be lifted up and a nation that does not practice righteousness will suffer reproach or be lowered down. This is the will of God. For us to try to lift our nation up, through protest or civil disobedience or some political campaign, without righteousness is vain and is an attempt to go against the will of God. It feels good to hear America the Beautiful and to see the Star Spangled Banner, and the fireworks, and to serve your country in the military but the most patriotic thing you can do for your nation is to practice righteousness, to oppose wickedness, and to preach and teach the gospel to others so that they may also practice righteousness. Only in this way can our nation be exalted. |
