PROVERB PRACTICALS

Proverbs 25:14,  Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain. (Whoso boasteth himself in a gift of falsehood is like clouds and wind without rain.)

If we can be allowed to attach the word good to the word liar then we may say that the man described in this proverb is a good liar.

He has the gift of lying.

He has the gift of promising gifts without the wherewithal to deliver a gift.

People believe him when he makes a promise.

He looks good when he commits himself to their service.

He is convincing.

He has the gift of falsehood and he continues to perfect it.

When he speaks, people pay attention to his sincere and convincing words.

He is rich in promises and the expectations of those around him increase when he speaks.

His false way makes way for him. He sounds very good!

People trust him by the way he looks and by the way he speaks.

He is packaged for falsehood!

Those who hear him have no abiding standard against which to compare his words.

This man could belong in the group of men Jude mentions in his epistle.

He would fit easily as one of the certain men who crept in unawares.

This man is like that. He will settle in alongside; he is stealthful.

He would easily fit as one of the ungodly men who advertises himself and who outwardly appear as one who serves Christ but in his heart deny the only Lord God.

As Jude says he is a spot in your feasts of love.

The spot mentioned in Jude means a ledge or reef of rock in the sea.

He is as it were a reef hidden from view of the ship but ready to do great damage to the ship.

He is hidden or disguised danger.

But his boasting is such as to convince those around him that instead of danger there is safety.

He boasts of knowing the way when in fact he is as lost as those whom he leads.

He claims to have the water to quench a thirsty soul when in fact the water he gives results in greater thirst.

He is the one who gives holy water with the promise that it cleanses from sin.

He is the one who baptizes babies and convinces that they are now assured a place in heaven.

He is the one who preaches good works as the way to good standing before God.

He is the one who mocks the shed blood and dead body of Christ by the doctrine of transubstantiation.

The doctrine that claims that the sacramental wine and bread are transformed into the actual blood and body of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He is the one who believes not that we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all so through the Mass he crucifies to himself the Son of God afresh.

He is the one whose headquarters is in Salt Lake City to whom those who love cunningly devised fables and endless genealogies are attracted.

Those who do not refuse profane and old wives fables can find plenty of supply in this man.

He is the one who creeps into houses and leads captive silly women laden with sins who are ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

He is part of the heap of teachers of those who will not endure sound doctrine and will believe anyone who will scratch their itching ears.

The time we live in seems to have an abundant supply to satisfy this heap

These boasters never lack for work for there are multitudes who will not endure sound doctrine!

There are multitudes who are drawn to a boaster who boasts of knowledge which is no knowledge.

They are drawn to him as a farmer with thirsty land caused by severe drought would be drawn to clouds and wind which by their very appearance promise refreshing rains.

Everything about him provides promise but in the end there is no performance.

Expectations from what he says are high but his deception will eventually be revealed as clouds without rain are too, soon revealed.

He is partner with the greatest of all deceivers who said to Eve in the Garden of Eden:

Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Satan, the father of these boasters, promises in the most sincere way, anything that will gather him a following to himself and away from God.

He promises anything that will result in stealing honor from the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

But Eve's problem in the garden was the same problem as those who believe the words of the boaster.

Eve did not act according to God's word.

She added to God's word and disregarded God's word and instead believed the serpent's word.

She put Satan's word ahead of God's word.

If she had been armed with God's word she would have discerned the subtlety of the serpent and knew that he was a liar, that he was a boaster.

God's word is the only defense of the child of God against the boaster, against the one who will creep in unawares, against the one who will by cunningly devised fables draw his victims to himself.

Hebrews 4:12,  For the word of God.....is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

And the child of God who is armed with the word of God is also capable of discernment.

The word of God will give him the understanding to know which clouds truly will bring rain versus those clouds which to the simple look like refreshing clouds but are only clouds full only of promise.

Promising clouds but only disappointing clouds, never delivering the water of life.
